Video Guide: How to Calculate Zakat

Learn the core rules of Zakat and how to use our calculator in just 1 minute.

Simplified Zakat Calculation

Paying Zakat is a vital pillar of Islam, and contrary to common misconceptions, calculating it is straightforward and transparent. Saliheen provides a structured framework that breaks down your wealth into clear, actionable categories.

To ensure absolute precision, our calculator separates your zakatable assets (cash, savings, gold, silver, shares, and business assets) from your deductible short-term liabilities and outstanding debts.

Once your net assets (assets minus short-term debts) are determined, the calculator compares them against the current live Nisab threshold. If your wealth meets or exceeds the threshold, your Zakat is calculated at the standard 2.5% rate.

How to Use the Calculator

Input the value of all cash, savings, and assets that have been in your possession for one full lunar year. In the debts section, list only the liabilities that are due for payment within the next 12 months. The calculator will instantly determine your Zakat obligation.

Understanding Nisab

Nisab is the minimum threshold of wealth a Muslim must own for a full lunar year before Zakat becomes obligatory. If your net assets fall below this threshold, you are exempt from Zakat but are welcome to make a voluntary charity contribution (Sadaqa).

The Nisab threshold is valued against the global market price of either silver (612.36g) or gold (87.48g). Because precious metal prices fluctuate daily, we track and refresh these values dynamically. You can view today's live rates below:

Today's Nisab Reference Rates

Silver (612.36 g) — approximately 10 200 TJS

Gold (87.48 g) — approximately 105 000 TJS

Zakat Standards in 2026

Zakat is calculated and paid once a year, starting on the day your wealth first met or exceeded the Nisab threshold (known as your Zakat anniversary or "Hawl"). You should calculate and pay Zakat on this same Islamic date each year.

Your calculation should include all personal bank savings, cash on hand, non-jewelry gold/silver, investments, and business stock. You should deduct any debts that are overdue or must be paid off within the next 12 months.

Zakat on Income vs. Savings

Zakat is levied on your active savings and trade wealth, not on your regular monthly salary. If you receive a regular paycheck but spend it fully on living costs and essential needs without saving, you do not owe Zakat.

Only the portion of your income that is saved, reaches the Nisab threshold, and remains in your possession for a full lunar year is subject to the 2.5% Zakat calculation.
